Interior door release handle not working on 2011 Sport

I discovered this recently and it appears to be a common fault with this generation Fusion. Web postings called it a safety issue and I can see that but evidently Ford has not issued a recall for this problem. I can open the door by reaching over the window sill and using the outside door handle to open the door but this is a nuisance. There are postings on the web showing individuals and techs replacing the door release and it seems to be at the owners expense with people buying junk car parts or going to the dealer parts department. I checked the Ford website and did not see a recall for this car so it must be a fix at your expense proposition. Anybody out there with experience on this issue?

I know this is old but what's the point in this post? No, there's no recall for them. It sounds like you've seen how to replace it. After I had a second one break on a relative's fusion, I just started ordering the cheap ones. They can be had for less than $10 if you're really in a pinch.

It's a very simple procedure that takes only simple tools. Although I've done a few, I could probably do another in less than 15 min without rushing.
